Strut for the Mutts
If you’d like to support the hard work of The Haven Animal Care Shelter, take your pooch along to the annual Strut for the Mutts dog walk! Held in mid to late Fall at Higginbotham Park, this is the rescue group’s largest annual fundraiser. With your four-legged friend in tow, you can join a host of other animal lovers and their pets to enjoy a scenic stroll in the fresh air. There’s plenty of other dog-friendly experiences to take part it on the day, including raffles with a stack of grrr-eat prizes. And the best part? All event proceeds directly benefit the dogs and cats at The Haven!

Howl-o-ween Dog Run & Haunted Hustle 4 Miles
A family-friendly fun run with a spooky Halloween theme — that’s what you’ll find at the Howl-o-ween Dog Run & Haunted Hustle 4 Miles, which takes place at Canyon Lake 6 each October! Dog lovers of all ages are encouraged to bring their canine companion along for a morning of fresh air, exercise, and dog-friendly fun. There are two courses to suit all ability levels, with a 1.2-mile 2K9 event and a more challenging 4-mile course. There’s even an adorable doggy costume contest before the race gets underway, so make sure you get there early to avoid missing any of the fun!

K-9 Splashfest
Does your dog simply love the water? Do you enjoy swimming by his side any chance you get? If you answered yes to these questions, K-9 Splashfest might just be the paw-fect event for you! Held in August at Montelongo Pool, this always-popular event invites owners and their dogs to dive in for a swim together! Dogs can compete in three different contests: the Swimsuit Competition, the Retrieving Contest (from the side or off the diving board), and the 25-Yard Timed Race, with some amazing prizes on offer in all categories. Door prizes are also available and dogs get in free. Entry for two legged-guests is $2.50 for adults or $2 for anyone 17 and under.

Dog Days of Summer
Looking for an event to help you enjoy the great outdoors with your pet this summer? Look no further than Dog Days of Summer, a pet-friendly day out hosted by the City of Lubbock’s Animal Services department. A celebration of all things canine, this free event promises a host of events and activities you can enjoy with your dog! There are demonstrations from police K9s and the South Plains Obedience Training Club, crafts, discounted microchipping, and heaps more. There will also be plenty of adoptable dogs on site for those looking to add a new fur-ever friend to their family, so head to Mahon Library to join in the fun!
Santa Paws
Each year, Lubbock Parks & Recreation hosts a Santa Paws photo event for the city’s furry friends. If you want to get some cute shots of your pooch posing with the jolly fat man in the red suit, this is the paw-fect chance! Of course, there’s much more to do than just get your pup’s photo taken, with other attractions like vendor booths, prizes, and dog microchipping also on offer. Admission is free and pictures are $5 each, so get your pooch into his or her cutest costume and get ready to create some holiday cards your friends and family will love!
