Give a Wag! Gives to Arlington Shelters

While Arlington, Virginia isn't taking first prize for the most dog-friendly city in Virginia yet, there are still plenty of dog-friendly things for you and Fido to do when you're there! The town in general, seated near Washington D.C., has plenty of attractions, dog-friendly restaurants, puppy parks, and even a unique, doggie bakery that hosts fun pup events!
Though it's not making any top ten lists just yet, it's certainly not lacking for things to do in the pup department. Many of those events and activities put on for the pups are hosted by the handful of shelters that are located in Arlington.

These shelters are not only rescuing homeless pooches and finding them new homes, they're also providing them with proper medical care, spaying and neutering them, and educating the public on how to care for pets correctly.

One of the most well-established shelters, the Animal Welfare League of Arlington, has been active since 1944. Their mission is to create a world where all animals can find permanent, compassionate homes. They provide shelter, adoption programs, medical care, and love to all animals that come through their doors.

Other popular shelters, like the Lucky Dog Animal Rescue and Homeward Trails Animal Rescue, are non-profit organizations that are dedicated to rescuing pooches on the streets of Arlington and from high-kill shelters. Lucky Dog Animal Rescue saves about 100-150 animals per month and has rescued over 6,800 pets since its inception in 2014. Homeward Trails, started about fifteen years ago and has saved about 21,000 animals in that time!
