Give a Wag! Gives to Richmond Shelters

The local favorite - Richmond Animal League - has been serving Richmond since the 1970s as a no-kill rescue facility. Averaging at least 1,500 animals rescued in recent years, RAL has received funding from multiple national grants to provide a low-cost spay and neuter clinic that is available to the public. RAL works hard to prevent overpopulation with their trap-neuter-return program and hopes to one day see a Richmond with almost no pet homelessness.

Richmond SPCA is the second largest no-kill shelter serving the Richmond metro area, saving an average of several thousand animals each year. RSCPA is heavily engaged with the community, hosting kids camps, school programs, and even birthday parties! Their website is active in updating seasonal pet recommendations and dog-friendly events such as treat decorating and dog running groups. There is even a quiz available to prospective adopters on their website that matches your needs to the perfect pet!

New to the scene, Richmond Ruff House is a rescue founded as a gap service provider that is exclusively run by volunteers and is supported through fostering.  They focus primarily on dogs with a particularly high risk of unnecessary euthanasia, providing shelter and additional veterinary services.  So if you are looking to support a small grassroots non-profit, look no further than Richmond Ruff House.  As their partnership network continues to grow, so does their need for donations big and small.

#1 South of the James Farmers Market

The mother of all farmers markets, the South of the James has everything the heart could desire.  There are cheesemongers, butchers, a variety of different local produce stands, fresh seafood from the bay, florists, organic dog treats, beekeepers... I could go on.  Not to mention the food and coffee vendors, this market is meant to be digested in its entirety.  Dogs are welcome, and there are plenty of tents there specifically for pups.  Saturday mornings used to be for cartoons, now they're made for South of the James!
