Walk/Run for the Animals
Get active, have some fun in the sun, and raise some money to help pets in need — that pretty much sums up the experience you can expect at the annual Walk/Run for the Animals! A fundraiser for the Humane Society of Southwest Washington, this paw-some community event supports the society’s adoption program, lost and found services, and shelter and medical care costs for abandoned dogs and cats. You and your furry friend can walk or run the course at whatever pace you choose, with a 3-mile walk and 5k timed run both on offer. All entrants receive a woof-tacular goody bag and entry to the Party in the Park, which features vendors, food, and stacks of dog-friendly activities.

Doggie Dive
Ever wondered what it would be like to see 200-odd dogs take to the pool on a glorious September afternoon? Well, now you can find out at the Humane Society of Southwest Washington’s annual Doggie Dive! This highly anticipated festival is held at the Lake Shore Athletic Club. The wet and wild afternoon takes place on the last day of the outdoor pool season and sees the pool thrown open to local dog lovers. Pets can dive and fetch in the big pool or take a relaxing dip in the wading pool, and the splash-tastic fun has to be seen to be believed! Entry is $15 per dog.

Island of Chi'waii
Want to escape the October chill and enjoy a tropical holiday with your pet? You can do exactly that (well, almost) at the Island of Chi’waii, a relaxing dog-friendly afternoon hosted by Dog Days Portland. The theme of this event is all about tropical fun, with Chihuahuas and all other small-breed dogs invited to enjoy an afternoon of indoor play and socializing. There’s plenty to keep dog owners entertained as well, with pet vendors, delicious cocktails, a pet photo booth, and a whole lot more! Other highlights include a pet costume contest and all the hilarity of a doggy limbo contest, with all proceeds raised supporting the Oregon Humane Society. Check it out if you and your pint-sized pup are craving a tropical getaway!

Doggie Dash
Doggie Dash is Portland’s biggest pet fundraiser and it’s an eagerly anticipated date on the canine social calendar! Held to benefit the Oregon Humane Society, this grrr-eat outdoor event takes place at Tom McCall Waterfront Park. You and your furry friend can mingle with a few thousand other dog lovers and their pets, socializing and playing as you tackle your choice of a 1.5-mile or 2.5-mile course. There’s a relaxed, positive community vibe all the way around the course, and an all-new Dog Utopia area promising a day full of dog-friendly activities. There are dog massages on offer, as well as the chance to talk with an animal communicator and even chase bubbles in the Bubble Booth! Whether you own an Affenpinscher, a Yorkshire Terrier or anything in between, you’ll love this paw-some doggie day out.
Tail Wag
A glamorous night out with your pet, with all proceeds raised going to benefit a grrr-eat animal cause — sounds pretty wonderful, right? This is Tail Wag, the Oregon Humane Society’s spectacular summer soiree! Held in July at the Lewis and Clark College Estate Gardens, this pet-friendly social staple sees that guests enjoy a gourmet three-course dinner, signature cocktails, and live music. Other highlights include lawn games, kitten cuddles, and plenty of puppy love, but the best part of all is that well-behaved dogs are welcome to attend! Funds raised go to support the society’s excellent efforts to help animals in need.
