“Reliable and experienced dog lover!”

Hi, I'm Abbey! I grew up in Iowa with all types of dogs ranging from small to large breeds and I own a mini poodle mix named Phoebe. I was a dog walker all throughout my undergrad years, I have been walking dogs on Wag while in grad school since 2018, and I’m also a Petco Certified Dog Trainer, so I have lots of personal and professional experience caring for dogs. :) I love walking and exploring new neighborhoods so I will be sure to take your pup on walks that will keep them happy and healthy!

“I just love dogs- young, old, big and small.”

I live in the Tri-cities area and am currently available for daytime and night time walks. I have two dogs of my own but have cared for up to four at a time. My friends all call me to watch their dogs when they are not available. I live in a community with 46 dogs, all of which I know and love. I am not afraid of any breeds and can spoil or follow the strictest rules. I believe each fur baby parent knows best how they want to have their babies cared for.

About Dog Training in St. Charles, IL

Training Fun Fact #1:

Getting your adopted pupper to trust you can be challenging, especially if a previous owner has abused them. It can take up to a year to build trust depending on your dog's past experiences, but it'll be well worth it to get your pup to feel loved again. Try to find out what causes your dog stress and expose them to the situation slowly in a safe, controlled environment. Use treats and positive reinforcement to build trust and turn what they're scared of into a good thing. It may take time, but with this method, you'll see an improvement little by little.

Training Fun Fact #2:

Does your opportunistic Odie keep begging for scraps at the dinner table? Well, you can prevent this behavior in under 2 months by giving your mutt the cold shoulder. Make sure everyone in your household knows to ignore your pup during dinnertime. Stay strong, even when your dog gives you puppy eyes and puts their head on your lap. This method will take patience, but eventually, your woofer will stop coming round when it's time for supper.

Training Fun Fact #3:

Nothing's cuter than having your fur-baby be the ring-bearer at your wedding, and with a few months of practice, this dream can become a reality. First, you'll want to teach your dog to "come" and get them used to following this command with lots of distractions around. Then, set up a wedding environment and get them to practice walking down the aisle with a handler for assistance. After a lot of practice, get the handler to let go of the leash midway and see if Fido does the walk down the aisle all by themselves. If they manage the walk perfectly, give them lots of treats and praise. Hopefully, everything will go off without a "hitch" on the big day!

Average Cost of Dog Training in Saint Charles, IL

You'll find a plethora of trainers dotted across Saint Charles and the west Chicago area. But before picking out a trainer who you think is a good fit for Max, make sure you carefully read the T&Cs.

Many trainers around Chicago require a deposit for group classes and also have specific requirements like vaccinations. You should also book a class a month or two in advance as some of the best trainers are booked solid for the foreseeable future.

You might think your pupper will flourish best in a group setting. Group classes in and around Saint Charles can cost anywhere from $130 and $230 for a 6-week puppy training or obedience course. While this is generally a lot more affordable than private classes, you'll be tied into a course, so make sure you can attend every class.

Some pet parents would rather take their woofer to one-on-one classes. These private sessions typically take place at your home. As your dog will get their trainer's undivided attention, they'll quickly pick up on new tricks. However, this comes at a cost, with private trainers around Saint Charles charging around $100 for a 90-minute session.

If none of these options sound like they'd suit your hound, check out some of the Saint Charles dog trainers on the Wag! platform. Private lessons start at $60 and can be booked effortlessly through the Wag! app. You can even chat with the trainer before the class and discuss what exactly you'd like Lassie to learn during each session.

Going Off-Leash in Saint Charles, IL

There are several off-leash dog parks across Saint Charles where Princess can show off their new training. When planning an off-leash excursion with your woofer, ensure you check the park rules beforehand. Some parks require proof of vaccinations before you're allowed in, and others have strict rules on when your dog is allowed off their leash — you could even get fined for not following these rules.

One of the most popular dog parks in Saint Charles is Fox River Bluff Dog Park. Perched on the Fox River, this 67-acre dog park is ideal for on and off-leash strolls with Lucky. There's a sizeable off-leash area where your fur-baby can play with their furry friends. Several trails run along the river and through a wooded area, perfect for leashed walks.

If your dog loves to be around lots of other doggos, head to the James O. Breen Community Dog Park. This 2.5-acre dog park tends to stay busy at all times of the week, so make sure your dog is well-adjusted before turning up at the dog run. Make sure your dog has up-to-date vaccinations before visiting here, as you won't be allowed in the park without the correct tags.
