I have been working in the pet care industry for approximately seven years now. I managed a daycare and pet boarding facility for four years and prior to that, I was a Kennel Supervisor for two years with a facility located in New Hampshire. More recently, I have worked as a Vet Tech in a general practice and emergency setting, as well as with a local animal shelter. Working as a Vet Tech has provided me with the opportunity to gain the knowledge and hands on experience of the medical aspect involved in providing care to both canines and felines. I have aspired to work with animals since I was a child and have always had a true passion toward them. I have years of experience in a canine pack environment, as well as one on one with most dog breeds. I also have personal experience, as I have two rescue dogs of my own. I feel this is very important when dealing with a client's pet, as it provides the assurance that their pet is in good hands. In addition to dogs, I have grown up living with cats my whole life. I also have worked with cats in both shelter and veterinary settings. From a ferrel cat to a lap cat, I have experienced both, yet love them all the same! I can confidently medicate any animal if necessary, including pilling to providing insulin injections. My main focus is currently working in the animal care field and furthering my education with my CVT. I absolutely love working in an environment where the focus is caring for animals. My ultimate goal is to own a rescue some day. I feel as though my passion for animals and my prior experience would be a great match for you and your pet! I look forward to hearing from you regarding your furry family members' needs!

“Every dog’s different & all deserve the same love!”

I‘ve been a Wag! Walker for year & have been an avid dog lover all my life! I’ve had two very different dogs; my first was a German Shepherd named Tash, a beautiful dog with enormous strength—so rewarding to train and be around. I currently own a finicky, anxious Mini Pinscher who I adore! I know Boston well and have been around animals my entire life, so I know how to earn a dog’s trust before taking control of the leash. I believe in positive reinforcement with dogs, & I think they do too!

About Dog Training in Waltham, MA

Training Fun Fact #1:

Dog training is an important responsibility for every pet parent — but it doesn’t always have to be so serious. There’s a huge range of fun training tricks you can teach your dog that’ll wow your friends and provide great mental stimulation for your pet. For example, you might like to train your pup to cover their eyes, jump into your arms, or even walk on their hind legs. Dogs of all ages can learn new tricks, so it’s never too late to start training your furry friend.

Training Fun Fact #2:

Do you have an older dog that suffers from the pain and discomfort of osteoarthritis? If so, they might find it difficult to climb stairs or hop into the car — which is why they may need to learn how to use a ramp. The key is to let your dog get accustomed to the ramp at their own pace, rewarding them first for sniffing it and then for putting their front paws on it. Patience is important, but it shouldn’t take your senior pooch too long to understand what you want them to do.

Training Fun Fact #3:

Is your dog overcome with excitement every time they see you? Do they jump all over you, scratching and licking you to within an inch of your life, just to show you how much they’ve missed you? Maybe you need to teach your dog how to greet you calmly — there are a few different methods for doing so. One is to ignore your dog until they calm down, then shower them with praise and attention. Another is teaching them to wait on a mat near the door when you come inside, while the “paws on the ground” method involves only entering the house once your pup has settled down. Once that’s mastered, you can move on to teaching them how to greet visitors calmly.

Average Cost of Dog Training in Waltham, MA

Choosing a dog trainer is much more complicated than many people realize. If you’re searching for dog trainers in Waltham, MA, you’ll know by now that there are lots of options to choose from — so how do you find the right person for your pet?

First, you need to consider the trainer’s experience and qualifications, then find out more about the training methods they use. Some trainers specialize in tackling specific problem behaviors, while you’ll also need to find someone who you and your dog feel completely comfortable with. As always, cost will also be a factor in your decision.

Then you’ll need to decide whether group sessions or private training lessons will be the best fit for your dog. The great thing about group training is that it lets you and your dog tackle some basic obedience skills in a relaxed setting. It’s the ideal chance for your puppy to work on their socialization, and group classes are a much cheaper option than private consultations. However, you’re usually looking at a long-term commitment of 4 to 6 weeks of classes, and prices ranging from around $150 to $350.

If your dog isn’t comfortable in a group setting or they need some one-on-one attention, private training lessons might be a better choice. There are many dog trainers in Waltham that offer in-home training sessions, allowing them to focus solely on the needs of your dog. But private training often doesn’t come cheap. While prices start at around $75 for a 1-hour session with some trainers, many trainers charge between $100 and $150 per hour — and even more than that in some cases.

Compare that to how much you’d pay for a trainer with Wag! — rates start at just $60 for a 1-hour session. That includes one-on-one tutoring for your pup and a customized training plan to help improve their behavior. And with no need for a long-term commitment, you’re free to shop around to find the perfect trainer for your pet.

Going Off-Leash in Waltham, MA

If you asked your dog to name their favorite activities in the world, going to the dog park would have to be at the top of the list. And when you live in Waltham, MA, there are some excellent off-leash parks to choose from.

One of the best of them is Waltham Dog Ranch. Featuring separate areas for small and large dogs, this “pawpular” park is completely fenced in to ensure some safe off-leash play. There are agility obstacles and waste bags provided, but this is only a relatively small park so may not be suitable for all dogs.

If you’re looking for something with a little more space to explore, you might want to head to Cat Rock Park in nearby Weston. This beautiful off-leash park boasts wooded trails and a small pond for dogs to swim in, so it’s a lovely spot to explore with your pup by your side.

Of course, you’ll want to make sure your dog will reliably come when called, even when there are lots of distractions. Ensuring that your dog doesn’t play aggressively and that they will accept strangers is also essential.
