Lakeside is an extremely small, residential neighborhood that is, ironically, not located immediately next to a lake. It is located in southwest San Francisco, roughly six miles from the downtown area, and immediately adjacent to San Francisco State University. As a relatively affluent neighborhood, Lakeside is largely composed of large, standalone, single-family homes. Beyond a gas station, a public library, and a public high school, there are very few commercial spaces in this neighborhood. The few businesses in the area include access to public transportation, a church, a drugstore, and a few restaurants on Ocean Avenue.

San Francisco and the Lakeside neighborhood typically experiences mild weather, meaning you aren't likely to suffer through extreme weather or temperatures. However, it does tend to get chilly during the evening or if a particularly strong breeze comes in off the Atlantic, so always grab a light sweater before you and your pup head out the door!

Lakeside is essentially all artificial terrain. There are two manicured greenways within the neighborhood's borders, but the rest is a large, residential community. Thankfully, the residential community has a large, maintained sidewalk so you and your pup will be safe from oncoming, high-speed, or heavy traffic. If you are looking for a bit more of a tiring walk while you and your pup are out for their daily exercise, move south through Lakeside as you will experience a slight incline which can help provide a bit more exercise for a high-energy pup. However, most of the neighborhood is relatively flat and the incline is gradual, so you may need to work a bit to find ideal exercise.

Lakeside's boundaries are Sloat Boulevard to the north, Junipero Serra Boulevard to the east, and 19th Avenue to the southwest. Ocean Avenue is also another large roadway with a few businesses located there that pedestrians and pups may want to avoid.

There are only two greenways in Lakeside, San Francisco, however, the neighborhood is close to several larger greenways as well. The two local parks are Sloat and Junipero Serra Open Space, a general open space with no walking trails or amenities, and Junipero Serra Playground, a small park with a playground. These areas may require your pup to remain on their leash throughout your daily exploration.

Lakeside, however, is within walking distance to several major greenways in the area including Lake Merced Park, Sigmund Stern Recreation Grove, and Pine Lake Park. Sigmund Stern Recreation Grove is home to an off-leash dog park if your pup needs a little extra exercise or some puppy-socializing! Lake Merced Park is a large, lakeside park that has almost five miles of walking trails, recreation areas, water recreation like boating and fishing, as well as picnic areas. There are also several smaller parks within walking distance of Lakeside that you can pay a visit to.
