South Los Angeles spans about 51 square miles and is split in the middle by the Harbor Freeway and Transit Way. It's bordered by the Santa Monica Freeway to the north and several Los Angeles neighborhoods on the other sides. As it's such a large neighborhood, the terrain varies depending on where you go. Some parts are extremely hilly, while others are flatter and more conducive for an easier walk. Some areas are very residential while others feature streets lined with businesses. Your walking experience purely depends on where you're at in South L.A.

The neighborhood has many, many streets that you can get lost exploring. While most of the region consists of concrete sidewalks, roads, and buildings, there's a lot of green space and parks in between. Do your best to avoid the areas near the freeway ramps as they're the busiest with cars, bikers, and more, or stay cautious as you cross those bustling intersections.
