Head to the west side of South L.A. to find Dog Lovers and 34 Pet Stop, two pet supply stores that also offer grooming services. On the east side, you'll find small places like Elia's Pet Store and Mike's Pet Store & Grooming. Barking Royals is a top-rated South L.A. pet store on San Pedro Street. In case of an emergency, there are several animal hospitals west of the Harbor Freeway including the Green Dog & Cat Hospital, the Ark Hospital, and the Animal Medical Center.
The neighborhood has many, many streets that you can get lost exploring. While most of the region consists of concrete sidewalks, roads, and buildings, there's a lot of green space and parks in between. Do your best to avoid the areas near the freeway ramps as they're the busiest with cars, bikers, and more, or stay cautious as you cross those bustling intersections.
A part of the Kenneth Hanh State Recreation Area is in South L.A. This 338-acre park offers the chance to explore a Japanese garden, miles of quiet hiking paths, and more. For a faster foray into nature, head to the Augustus F. Hawkins Nature Park, an 8-acre recreation area with wetlands and wild foliage springing up around the pathways. There are so many other smaller greenways scattered throughout South L.A., and you'll easily find one to fit your preferences along the way.
