West Carson and the rest of Los Angeles has an extremely mild climate. Los Angeles is a drier city, but most of the rainfall will happen in the winter months. Temperatures range from 59 - 76°F, so you will likely have many days with the perfect walking weather. Just be sure to grab a light sweater, as it does get chilly during the evenings!
The boundaries of West Carson include West Del Amo Boulevard to the north, Harbor Freeway and Transit Way to the east, West Lomitas Boulevard to the south, and Normandie Avenue to the west. Beyond those major roadways, West Carson Street, Sepulveda Boulevard, and South Vermont Avenue are other major thoroughfares that may have more congestion and may be more high-risk for pedestrians.
Unfortunately, there are no greenways in the West Carson neighborhood. As previously mentioned, there are also few public grassy areas in either commercial or residential areas of the small neighborhood, which means that you may have to venture outside of the neighborhood to find adequate areas for running and playing with your pup.
Luckily, there are several public parks within walking distance of West Carson. These include Carson Park, Veterans Park, Normandale Recreation Center and its greenway, Mulligan Family Fun Center and its greenway, Harbor City Park, Carriage Crest Park, and Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park. Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park is the largest of these greenways and is home to plenty of walking trails, a lake, and a golf course.
As you visit any of these local areas, remember to observe local leash laws and be courteous to other residents and visitors while you play with your pup.
