Logan Heights is a neighborhood of San Diego, California. Located just south of the city's central business core, this community is within walking distance of amenities in the central areas of the city and has many local businesses and services within its own boundaries. Imperial Avenue on the north side is lined with shops and eateries and there is a commercial area located on the southside. Other small shops, churches, a library, and schools are all well distributed in this walkable district.

When hiking the area with your canine companion, you will enjoy warm, sunny weather that makes walking pleasant with little need to wear warm or waterproof jackets. Some precipitation and fog occurs in the spring, but usually clears off later in the day. Winters are mild with temperatures well above freezing. Summers can be very hot and you may want to take your pet out earlier or later in the day to avoid midday heat.

Logan Heights is bounded by Interstate 5 on the west and south sides, Interstate 15 on the east, and Imperial Avenue, which is a commercial corridor, on the north. The freeways should only be crossed where main thoroughfares cross with pedestrian sidewalks along them.

This is a developed urban neighborhood and, although there is landscaping on private properties, the area is not heavily vegetated. Logan Heights is one of the oldest neighborhoods in San Diego and there are some interesting historic homes with unique architecture in the area. Homes are mostly moderate, single-family detached dwellings.

Plenty of development and revitalization efforts are taking place as this neighborhood is ideally situated close to San Diego's central neighborhoods. When walking with your dog, you will encounter some gentle inclines, but the region is relatively level. There are sidewalks along Logan Heights streets, providing safe seperate walkways for you and your dog to stroll on.

Memorial Park is centrally located in Logan Heights and has been the focus of recent redevelopment efforts. The park features a recreation center, seniors center, pool, skatepark, sports fields, and open areas with some trees. A paved walking path makes a great place to stroll with your leashed pup. Recent work done to improve the park includes a drinking fountain, a new play area, accessible walkways, an irrigation system, and drought tolerant plantings.

Balboa Park is a 10 minute drive to the north and features hundreds of acres of greenway, many amenities, miles of hiking trails, and three designated dog parks. Two of the dog parks are off-leash areas that are not fenced, but they are quite large, with many amenities. The third dog park is fenced with separate areas for large and small dogs. This is a busy park with museums, gardens, and a zoo which attracts many visitors, so locals often opt to visit during off-peak hours.
