Alamo Square is a small, residential neighborhood centrally located in San Francisco, California. Alamo Square's claim to fame comes from being home to the Painted Ladies, a famous row of Victorian-style houses that were prominently displayed in the original 'Full House' opening sequence. Besides the Painted Ladies, Alamo Square is also home to the William Westerfeld House, the African American Art & Culture Complex, a theater, a church, a local coffee shop, and a few restaurants. However, the neighborhood is largely composed of standalone, single-family homes which are known for their ornate architecture, usually also in the Victorian or Edwardian style.

San Francisco, like much of the California coast, has a mild climate that is enjoyable most of the time. The summers will be a bit dry while the winter season will bring most of the city's rainfall. Thankfully, because of the mild climate, you won't have to deal with extreme temperatures in Alamo Square.

Like much of San Francisco's residential areas, Alamo Square is home to some pretty steep hills so you and your pup will definitely get in your daily cardio! This may require you to limit the amount of walking that you do if your pooch is elderly or has joint issues which can lead to easy overexertion. There really is no way to avoid hills in this residential community. Additionally, much of Alamo Square is artificial terrain with the exception of the large greenway which is more manicured terrain and not natural. Thankfully, this neighborhood does have well-maintained sidewalks to help keep you and your pup safe on your daily walks. Just remember to keep an eye out for hot pavement which can hurt sensitive paws.

The boundaries of Alamo Square include Turk Street and McAllister Street to the north, Fillmore Street and Buchanan Street to the east, Hayes Street to the south, and Divisadero Street to the west.

There are only two greenways in Alamo Square which are Golden Gate and Steiner Mini Park and Alamo Square Park. The Mini Park is an extremely tiny space on the corner of a block and it won't provide much space for general recreation but may make a great pit stop during your pup's walk. Alamo Square Park is the largest greenway in Alamo Square and it is home to a playground, some paved walking trails, a tennis court, and a picnicking area which is great for an outing with your dog at your side. This park usually has quite a few visitors as tourists from all around will frequently stop here to people-watch and enjoy the Painted Ladies.

Nearby greenways include Buchanan Street Mall, Fillmore and Turk Mini Park, Jefferson Square Park, and Raymond Kimbell Playground. In addition to that, Alamo Square is only two miles from Golden Gate Park and an off-leash dog run.
