Mission Terrace is a residential neighborhood on the southern outskirts of San Francisco. I-280 runs along its northwestern border. It is bounded by Geneva Avenue to the south while Mission Street makes up its eastern boundary.

Since it is a largely residential area with a large proportion of its space taken up by parks, high schools, and train stations, there isn’t a huge amount of pet amenities available directly within the Mission Terrace boundaries. The Vet On Wheels can often be found in this area, however. It does veterinary house calls in the Bay Area, so if you have a pooch emergency or are lacking transport, it’s a great option for you. On its eastern border near Mission Street, there are a range of shops and restaurants, making it a great place to stop by on your walks. Animal Farm Pet Hospital resides further south on Mission Street in the Outer Mission area for any vetirenary needs.

As a city location, Mission Terrace is a mostly artificial, built-up landscape.

Expect a lot of sidewalk strolls and you won’t be disappointed. Since it is out of the city center, you should be able to walk your dog on a leash without too many pedestrians in the way. However, you’ll have to visit one of the area's parks and open spaces in order to give your little friend the space to run free.

Like most of the Bay Area, it is an incredibly hilly area. If you’ve ever spent any time in San Francisco, you’ll understand this is part of the city’s charm. Expect steep slopes interjected by level roads that cut through the landscape. This can mean that walking anywhere in the city can be particularly challenging. Luckily, the climate is fairly moderate due to the unique weather system that the Bay brings, so most of the year shouldn’t be too sweltering for you or your doggy friend.

Mission Terrace has one distinct area which provides you with all the green space you could need for one neighborhood. Balboa Park is a large green area with a number of amenities that are great opportunities for you to get outside and for your puppy friend to stretch their legs. The park boasts a children’s playground, a public swimming pool, and the only stadium created specifically for soccer. While these are not suited to our four-legged friends, there are also a number of walking trails that are ideal for a stroll.

To the east of Mission Terrace, you have John McLaren Park. This huge greenway, while just outside of the neighborhood, provides a great alternative for walkers who are looking to go a little further afield. It offers seven miles of walking trails as well as the famous Philosopher’s Way Trailhead which offers incredible views. It's the perfect opportunity to give your pooch the space they need!
