Showplace Square is a large area of mixed retail and warehousing areas with apartments over the stores and many other businesses. The neighborhood sits between the Southern Embarcadero Freeway and the Bayshore Freeway. The one thing you won't find here is much in the way of restaurants. However, there is a dog park right at Mission Bay and pet supply stores in the local area.

At one time, the area was a working-class neighborhood, but today, it has undergone significant gentrification and is one of the more expensive communities. Showplace Square is a good place to raise a family and, thanks to the two highways, is within easy commute of many major employers.

Walking here will give you spectacular views of the San Francisco Bay as walk up and down the hills. Keep in mind that San Francisco summers hover in the upper 60s, but the winters are very mild with temperatures in January hovering in the mid-70s.

Like much of San Francisco, Showplace Square tends to be hilly in nature, which is perfect for walking your dog. Flat terrain is not only boring, but doesn't exactly make for very good exercise. However, the hilly terrain here is perfect. Going uphill works one set of muscles and going downhill works a different set. The more you work your way up and down the hills, the faster you will build up endurance and shed those extra pounds!

You should, however, know that walking on paved surfaces can be very hard on Fido's paws. The pavement acts like coarse grit sandpaper on the skin of their pads. Give them time to get used to walking on rough surfaces a little at a time before you start going on citywide hikes or you might cause some significant scrapes which can lead to discomfort. Take your time and enjoy your walks!

The one problem with living in the Showplace Square area is the lack of green spaces for you and Fido to play on. The nearest is the Mission Bay Park System that runs along both sides of the bay. There are trails to enjoy walking your pooch on, plenty of grass to romp around on, and tons of fresh air to breathe in.

Mission Creek Park also offers a decent-sized area of grass along with walking trails. The main trail goes all the way down the south side of the bay around the bottom of it and back up the other side. It's a great way for both of you to get in a nice long walk!

At the bottom end of the bay sits the Mission Bay Dog Park, a blend of gravel and artificial turf that is fenced in, allowing you to let Fido run around without having to be on a leash.
