Calero is bordered by several main thoroughfares with Snell Avenue on the west, the Valley Freeway on the north border, and the Santa Teresa Boulevard on the south edge of the community. Avoid the freeway area when walking with your dog and ensure your pup is securely leashed when crossing major thoroughfares in the region. This sedate, residential neighborhood has ranch and bungalow style single-family homes. Houses are well spaced with setbacks from streets and large properties. Yards have front and rear lawns, trees, swimming pools, gardens, and mature landscaping that provide greenways and create a tranquil suburban-like atmosphere in the neighborhood.

The terrain is flat and it is easy for owners and dogs to walk about the block without having to navigate steep inclines. There are paved sidewalks and some grassy berms to separate pedestrian ways from roadways, and provide some natural terrain for doggie paws strolling the streets of Calero.
