Dog Walking in Crawford
The unincorporated community of Crawford, Florida is a quiet residential area off US-301. Apart from a few manufacturing plants and quick access to the highway, this cozy community doesn’t have much else to offer residents and visitors, so you’ll need to drive a short distance to find some dog-friendly amenities. If your pooch needs veterinary care, three animal hospitals are located in nearby Callahan, which is less than a 10-minute drive away.
If you and your pooch call Crawford home, you’ll be happy to know there are a few furrific nature preserves right on your doorstep! Thomas Creek Wildlife Management Area, where you can hunt or hike the day away, is just over 10 minutes outside of town. Leashed dogs are welcome in all public access areas of the reserve.
Cary State Forest is just under a 15-minute drive away, and this area offers more family-friendly activities which makes it pawfect for a weekend outing. Enjoy wildlife watching, hiking, camping, and hunting here. Dogs are allowed, but must remain on-leash within the designated public areas. You’ll also need to pay $2 for a day pass.

Best Dog Neighborhoods in Crawford
This peaceful Jacksonville residential community is near Interstate 295 and Interstate 10 and is a short 30-minute drive south of Crawford. The Jacksonville Baldwin Rail Trail is one of the over 1,600 old railroads and corridors that have been reinvented into useable walking and jogging trails nationwide, making it an ideal place to bring Fido to get some vitamin D and cardio! The path is flat, paved and wide, making this pawesome walk an accessible day out for all ages and abilities. Not only that, but most of the route is shaded, so there's no need to worry about your furball overheating in the summer sun.
Located directly off Interstate 295, and Interstate 95, this easily accessible area of Jacksonville is only a 30-minute drive from Crawford. Oceanway Park is a local dog park that comes with all the trimmings: separate areas for large and small dogs, shade, water fountains, trash cans and poop bags! The local chain pet store not only provides food, treats and toys for your pup, it can also patch him up and bring him to fun seasonal events! There is a veterinary clinic on the grounds and depending on what time of the year it is, there are fun events where you can get your dog’s picture taken with Santa or the Easter Bunny!
Jacksonville's bustling downtown neighborhood is a mecca of dining, shopping, and entertainment located just a short 25 miles from Crawford. Confederate Point Dog Park is a local favorite, off-leash dog park that is completely fenced and includes amenities like pavilions, benches, waste stations, drinking fountains and designated areas for small and large pups. Make no bones about it, your pooch will thoroughly enjoy their visit! Unity Plaza is a fantastically Fido-friendly space that includes restaurants, an outdoor amphitheater, and beer garden. The Magnificat Café, The Candy Apple Café & Cocktails and River City Brewing Company and are some eateries in the area that cater to canines.
Five Points in Jacksonville is approximately 25 miles from Crawford and offers a plethora of dining options that overlook the serene Saint John’s River. The area doesn't lack for exercise options, either -- Riverside Park, Memorial Park, Willowbranch Park, Native Park #1, and Hollybrook Park all have open grassy areas and sidewalks where humans can walk their canine companions. The annual Strut Your Mutt is a local fundraising event where you and a team can register for a fun charity walk; all money raised goes to the No More Homeless Pets Network that consists of over 1,900 shelters nationwide!
Another neighborhood of Jacksonville, Hidden Hills offers fabulous views of Mill Cove and St. John’s River. The area is also home to Ed Austin Dog Park, 4 acres worth of uninhibited off-leash doggy fun that comes with water, shade trees, benches, and tables! Bags and water are provided, so just bring your pup and prepare to play! It's well worth taking a wander through the people side of the park too, where you'll find a well-shaded walking path and a picturesque lake. Non-furry family members might also appreciate the well-maintained playground! Holiday Inn Express and Candlewood Suites both offer dog-friendly accommodation.
