Mallards Glen is a community of two-story apartments located behind the Volusia Mall. Living here puts you within walking distance of the Daytona Beach International Speedway. You are also close to the Halifax Health Medical Center and Daytona State College.

This is a centralized location that puts you close to several of the finest restaurants in town, a short drive from the World's Most Famous Beach, and not far from some of the most beautiful forests in Central Florida. While there might not be much here in the way of dog parks, there are several great parks within driving distance to explore.

Summers here are perfect for exploring the dense woods with temperatures in the 90s. The shade will help keep both of you cooled off. Alterantively, the winters here are perfect from a hiking point of view as the temperatures are in the 50s and 60s during the daytime.

The terrain here is relatively urban in nature, but the community itself sits on a large wooded lot with plenty of grass and three lakes. But you can only walk around the neighborhood for so long before both of you are going to become bored.

The good news is that if you follow Dunn Avenue to the east, there are several other residential communities to explore. There are also a few small areas of woods nearby that might be worth taking a good look at during the daylight hours. Additionally, you'll find a few vacant lots nearby, but since they are private property, you may want to avoid taking your pup walking on them.

You should also be aware that during the summer months, the paved surfaced in Daytona can reach temperatures of 135°F which is more than hot enough to burn the pads on your dog's paws. Invest in some dog boots to protect those feet!

Beyond the lakes within the community and a few small sections of woods, there really isn't much in the way of green space in Mallards Glen.

If you want a better place to play, you are luckily only a short drive from the Community Dog Park at the Halifax Humane Society. The park offers separate sections for smaller and larger breeds, water fountains, and shady places for you to sit while Fido gets out and plays with their canine buddies.

If getting out into nature is more to your interests, then you are a short drive from the Tiger Bay Wildlife Management Area. The WMA covers over 30,000 acres of dense forest for you to explore on the many miles of trails that cut through the woods in every possible direction. Take your time to look for as many of the local inhabitants such as whitetail deer, black bears, bald eagles, and hundreds of others as you hike along.
