Ortona North is neighborhood on the beachside peninsula of Daytona Beach. The community stretches from the Halifax River to the beach between Boylston and Woodland Avenues. The homes here are modest single-family homes next door to the Bellair Plaza shopping center that contains a Marshalls department store and a Publix grocery store.

Living here puts you within a short walk of the pristine white sands of the World's Most Famous beach. Along A1A, you will find plenty of tasty restaurants to sample including Steve's Famous Diner. For those who love the nightlife, all you have to do is follow A1A to the Boardwalk where you will find several clubs to enjoy.

For those of you who love to surf, summers here are in the 90s every day of the week with plenty of blue skies. The surf tends to be moderate, but the water temperatures during the summer months range from 82 to 86°F, making for perfect surfing conditions.

If you are looking for terrain that is easy on the legs, then living in Ortona North might be just what you are looking for. The land between the Halifax River and the beach is quite flat. If your dog is a pup, a pudge ball, or an aging senior, the level walking surface can be a major boon. None of the above conditions would make hilly terrain a good idea as instead of a good healthy walk, someone is going to become overtired.

For those dogs that need something beyond easy-to-walk-on ground, you can always take your pup out to the beach for his walks. The beach offers both soft sand that can be very challenging as it tries to drag feet and paws in with every step and wet, hard-packed sand. You'll also stroll along the cool refreshing surf, offering a great way to cool down after a day of stenuous walking.

Living on the beachside typically leaves you with the beach to walk on and, if you are really lucky, a small park nearby. But living in Ortona North puts you within an easy driving distance of Bulow Creek and Tomoka State Parks.

Traveling north on Beach Street over on the mainland side will bring you to Tomoka State Park first. Here, you and your dog can enjoy walks along two trails, stop and visit Nocoroco, a 1500-year-old Timucuan Indian village, and enjoy walking in the forest.

Alternatively, Bulow Creek State Forest is home to the Fairchild Oak, a live oak tree that may be one of the oldest trees in the state at over 400 years old. The park features several trails you can spend hours exploring. Over 1,500 acres of these trails are underwater. You can also hike in to see the remains of the Bulow Plantation by following the seven-mile-long trail running through the park.
