The Lake Saint Claire area surrounds St. Claire Lake out to the west on the other side of SR-44, between Lake Mack-Forest Hills and Pine Lakes. Most of the homes are some form of manufactured housing and they all have huge yards. This is a very rural area as even the roads aren't paved! In exchange for this lack of pavement, you do get to enjoy plenty of privacy in a tranquil environment.

The only challenging part of living in this area is that the heart of Deland and where you will find the supermarkets, superstores, and places to buy your dog food are twenty minutes away. However, most who live in the area find this to be a small price to pay for living this far out from the noise and constant traffic of the downtown area. There is room out here for your family to relax and for your dog to stretch their legs.

Walking in this neighborhood is far less stressful than you would find it to be back in town. While the roads aren't paved and there are no sidewalks for you and your dog to use, this actually works to your advantage. The dirt roads offer a cooler surface for your dog to walk on and, since it is never perfectly smooth and flat, it also adds a little challenge to your walks.

The other nice thing about living on this type of road and taking your dog out for walks here is that you can usually hear vehicles coming long before you have to worry about them being too close. In addition, during the summer, most cars and trucks create vast clouds of dust that make them even easier to see coming. However, traffic is pretty low, so you and your dog should be able to get out and go for long walks without having too much to worry about.

Everywhere you look, there are green spaces! From vast undeveloped areas of woods to St. Claire Lake, there are plenty of places you can take your pup walking under the trees. Living in this neighborhood puts you close to the Seminole State Forest where you and your pup can spend hours hiking on trails that are not on private property.

To the south is the Lower Wekiva River Preserve State Park where you and your dog will find numerous multi-use trails to hike along, tons of wildlife to look for, and equestrian campsites for your use. You never know what you might see out here as there are gators, hundreds of birds, and many other critters who call this place home. You and your dog can come out for day hikes or pack a tent and spend the entire weekend hiking in the forest. The park also features several places to put in a canoe or kayak if you can get your dog to go with you!
