Bayberry is a small townhouse community on the corner of Schoolway Avenue and Michigan Avenue. It's only three blocks from the beach that attracts surfers from all over the world. While most might think living right on the coast would be better, when you look at how busy the main road is, this takes away some of its appeal. But, since it should only take you five minutes to walk there, living a couple of blocks from the beach doesn't seem so bad!

But the coastal waters aren't the only thing within a few minutes of your home. There is a number of small restaurants and stores within walking distance. Along with this, there is a Publix and numerous other stores and restaurants to the north on E 3rd Avenue. There are also several large green spaces within driving distance where you and your pup can go for walks virtually all year round, thanks to the mild winters.

One of the best reasons to live in Bayberry rather than on the beach is simply the lack of constant traffic. S Atlantic Avenue is the major artery running along the coast in one form or another for many miles. As such, it tends to busy at certain times of the day like rush hours and during peak tourist season. Since you must cross this street to take your dog for a walk on the beach, be sure you use the crosswalks and, even then, keep your eyes open for those who like to run the lights.

By sticking closer to home, you can use the sidewalks running throughout the residential neighborhoods where you will experience less vehicular traffic and only a small amount of pedestrian traffic. The sidewalks are heavily shaded which will help keep the scorching summer sun at bay. The ground is pretty flat, but you can go for distance to keep your walks interesting.

The neighborhood itself is heavily wooded, as are most of those around it. Immediately to the west is the Indian River Lagoon Park and the Mosquito Lagoon Aquatic Preserve. The park offers shady walking trails and a place to have picnics along with a fishing pier. The aquatic preserve covers a vast area of waterways dotted with islands. If you choose to take a boat out in the waters, be sure you take a GPS unit that tracks your journey to ensure that you don't get lost.

Two blocks to the east is the beach that runs for miles to the south and the Smyrna Dunes Park to the north. You and your dog can use the soft sand for a workout and follow it up with a gentle walk back to your starting point on the wet sand. If you go for your walks early in the morning, you should virtually have the beach to yourselves, making for a much more enjoyable walk.
