Boardwalk is a quiet residential community that is almost entirely single-family homes, even on the beach, which is unusual for the beaches in Central Florida. One great thing about living here is that you are close enough to the central part of town to be able to enjoy the many restaurants, taverns, pubs, and bars.

At the western end of the community is the Indian River. To the east is the Atlantic River while up north are a couple of parks and Condict Drive sits to the south. While there aren't any condos in the boardwalk, they start at the end of A1A and Condict Drive and run south.

The homes here may be older, but the area is very well-kept. The only things missing are shade trees along the way and sidewalks to use for daily walks. If you need puppy supplies, you have no choice but to head back over to the mainland side of town.

While there may not be any sidewalks for you and your dog to walk on or any shade to help keep you cool, there also isn't a lot of traffic to worry about except for rush hours. Most of the vehicles you are likely to find cruising around the neighborhood are people who live here unless it's the weekend and there are garage sales going on.

The ground itself is as flat as can be which may be why you don't see many people out walking. The other reason could be the 90-degree weather the area enjoys all year long. Either way, as long as you pay attention to what's going on around you, going for walks with your dog shouldn't be an issue. Try to take your walks early in the morning during the hottest months of the year. Doing so will be far more enjoyable for both of you and there is likely to be less traffic to deal with.

When it comes to green spaces, living here in Boardwalk gives you several options. First, there are two parks just to the north. Grayce K Barch Park offers a large area of shaded woods with trails you can walk your dog on. The shade will help keep things at least a little cooler or perhaps it's just being out of the direct sunlight that makes it feel that way.

The other half of the park, or as it is better known, Grayce K Barch North Beach Community Park, offers scrub zones and direct access to the beach. Here on this part of the beach is the Volusia Beaches Fire Pit Area, the only place on the sand where you are allowed to have fires. It's a great place to take your pup and the rest of the family in the evening for a warm fire and some snacks!
