Wag! Walkers know Collins

Collins is a small neighborhood of single-family homes right off the beach. The only thing between you and the sand are condominiums and hotels. This, unfortunately, means that you live in a very busy part of town. It might be best to take your dog on their walks during the daylight hours. This might mean dealing with more foot and vehicular traffic, but at the same time, it also means you have the safety of broad daylight.

Living here puts you with walking distance of numerous excellent restaurants and small stores. If you want a grocery or pet supply store, there are several over on the mainland side. It also means you can take advantage of the cool offshore breezes to help make going for walks with your pup a little more comfortable for both of you. Just keep in mind that during the hottest months of the year, you should be walking in the early morning hours when things are still cool.

What is the terrain like in Collins?

The area is chock full of single-family homes, small businesses, hotels, and condominiums. When you decide to take your dog out for a walk, try and gauge when the best times of the day are to do so. There will, of course, be rush hours to deal with and seasonal traffic that will go up and down.

It's very flat here, meaning that it offers very little in the way of challenge. Along with this, you and your dog aren't going to find much in the way of shade, so you should try to take your walks at times when the sun is not at its zenith.

While there is a sidewalk for you and your pooch to walk on running along N Atlantic Avenue, the rest of the time, you will be walking on the roads. Be sure to keep your eyes on the traffic as it does tend to be pretty busy, especially during tourist season.

How many greenways are there in Collins?

There isn't much the way of green space around the houses in Collins, but there is the beach for both of you to enjoy. The beach is a virtually endless green space with soft sand on one side for you and your dog to get in a good workout while you walk. On your way back, cross over to the wet side and enjoy firmer sand to walk on and the cool ocean water to play in.

If you drive north on Atlantic Avenue, your trip will take you to Smyrna Dunes Park. Here, you and your pooch can wander around in one of the only county parks where dogs are permitted. Do remember that you need to keep them on a leash while in the park. The park has numerous nature trails, a boardwalk, and a beach where both you and your dog are welcome to play and go in for a dip.
