New Smyrna Beach is a city just south of Daytona Beach, Florida and is well-known in the surfing world for its excellent waves. From the Smyrna Dunes Park, you have spectacular views of the lighthouse at the Ponce Inlet. With over 312 historic buildings, the historic part of town was listed on the National Register in 1990. The town is a blend of residential areas, some light industrial spaces, and several golf courses.

Living here puts you with driving distance of the beach and several other large green spaces for you and your dog to go walking in. Like many towns along the east coast, part of New Smyrna Beach is located on a peninsula and, like most beachside towns, the beach is lined with condominiums and traffic can be hectic at times, especially during the peak tourist seasons. However, for the most part, this is a quiet town and a great place to raise a family.

The terrain itself varies throughout town. Some areas are heavily developed, while others are more rural and heavily wooded. Depending on where you live, you may encounter heavy traffic all day long, or you may not see much of it except during rush hours. Then there are those areas, especially inside the golf course communities, where your days are likely to be interrupted only by the occasional golf cart.

The levels of both vehicular and pedestrian traffic do wax and wane with peak seasons during the year with the winter months being the quietest. Walking your dog safely will also depend heavily on which neighborhood you live in as some areas have sidewalks, while others do not. When walking in busy areas, be sure to keep your dog on a short leash to protect them.

The land is flat and uneventful, so you will have to trade distance for challenge to get in a good workout for you and your pup.
