Ocean Villas Condominium sits on the west side of S Atlantic Avenue rather than on the beach. However, the coast is less than a 5-minute walk across S Atlantic Avenue and shopping is only a five-minute drive to the north on E 3rd Avenue. Here, you will find a number of restaurants, shops, and a Publix grocery store where you can also pick up food and supplies for your pooch.
If you like visiting eclectic stores and boutiques, then another five minutes to the north is Flagler Avenue, a historic area of town where you will find several great little stores, pubs, and restaurants to check out. You could spend an entire summer day hanging out on this road just going through the various stores. Then, of course, you can always go back over to the mainland side where you will find more restaurants and shops to explore whenever you have a spare moment or two.
Ocean Villas Condo is in a bustling area of beachside New Smyrna Beach along S Atlantic Avenue, the main thoroughfare. It feeds all residential areas, the condos, and the businesses, and goes all the way south along the coast. Vehicular traffic along this road tends to be heavy all day long, but especially during morning and evening rush hours.
If you must walk your dog along this busier street, be sure to use a short leash to stay out of the way of other travelers. If your dog is not used to walking next to and amidst crowds of people, you should consider getting out for your walks early in the day before things get busy. If you plan to walk on the beach, early mornings are also the best time. By midday, the dunes will be full of vehicular traffic as well as people of all ages running around near the water.
The nearest green space of any size is the beach itself. Here, you and your dog can make use of the soft sands to get in a little extra with your workout before you use the wet sand for your return journey. If you are going to use the coast for your daily walks, be sure you go early in the morning before the sun starts turning up the temperature. Why not take your pooch out for their walks at daybreak so you can take in a Florida sunrise?
On the west side of the peninsula is the Mosquito Lagoon Aquatic Preserve, a vast area of waterways and wildlands. It’s an excellent place for you and your dog to go exploring in a boat. There are even places for you to put ashore and go for short walks. Locals recommend you use a tracking GPS to keep you from getting lost as landmarks can be hard to see.
