The Villas at River Oaks is a small community of single and multi-family homes next door to the Indian River Lagoon Park and the Mosquito Lagoon Aquatic Preserve. Living this far back from the beach has an advantage as you tend to miss out on most of the tourist traffic. However, with the Indian River Lagoon Park at the end of the road, you can expect some.

The other advantage to living this close to the beach is that you can walk your dog to the coast, go for a long walk, and then walk home! There are multiple restaurants nearby and a grocery store to the north.

The sun, the great surf, the warm winters, and the hot and sunny summers are only a small part of what makes the Villas a great place to live. One word of warning: you will need plenty of mosquito repellent and citronella candles. Mosquito Lagoon didn't get its name for no reason!

The ground here is mostly flat, but if you go a few hundred yards to the west, it gets a little rougher. Keep going and you will suddenly find yourself with wet feet. The lagoon is that close to you on the west side! While the park is not one of the most popular in the area, you can expect at least some traffic to be coming and going during the day.

While there are a few sidewalks threading their way through the residential areas, most of your walking will be on the roads. Be sure to watch out for cars. They may not be watching out for you!

Beyond a few local residents out walking their dog, you and yours are not likely to run into much in the way of pedestrian traffic unless you let your walks take you over towards the beach. In this case, you are far more likely to encounter crowds.

Having a home in the Villas at River Oaks means living on the doorstep of a massive green space in the form of the Mosquito Lagoon Aquatic Preserve. This vast network of waterways is the perfect place to pop your dog in the canoe and go for a paddle. However, you might want to bring your GPS with you as its quite easy to get lost.

If you prefer to stay on dry land, there is the Indian River Lagoon Park where you and your dog can hike several trails running through the woods in the shade.

The beach is a five to ten-minute walk to the east. It offers miles of soft sand for those who need a good workout and wet sand for those who are looking for a less strenuous walk. To avoid the crowds of people on the beach all summer long, you should plan to take your walks in the early morning.
