This centrally located residential neighborhood of Panama City, Florida, features established single-family residences, with mature landscaping and gardens. Because it is centrally located it is an easy drive to several dog-friendly parks, pet stores, and grooming salons. The weather in Panama City is mild, with short warm winters, and long hot summers. If you start out in the morning and it is cool, it probably won't be for long, so be prepared for warm weather. Fortunately, there are lots of trees in this well-established area to provide shade. You can enjoy walking your dog year round as the weather is relatively warm, however, be aware that there is the possibility of hurricanes and tropical storms during hurricane season along the Florida coast, so be aware of the weather forecast. Panama city is a coastal city and you're never far from the water, which is great if you have a water-loving pooch. This residential neighborhood has a relatively low population density and is untroubled by tourists, so is a great area to explore quietly with your dog.
Pine Orchard Heights is well developed, with a lot of landscaped yards and trees. There is a cemetery to the west, several churches, and a school. The terrain is flat, however many of the streets do not have paved sidewalks. You will want to wear good footwear for walking beside streets in case of uneven ground, and keep a careful eye out for traffic while walking your dog, as there is not always good separation from traffic for pedestrians. However, since this neighborhood is relatively quiet, traffic is not usually very frequent. Because the area is well built up with different types of houses there is always something different to see as you explore these quiet streets, which makes walks with your dog more interesting. Also, trees provide shelter and a different vista on easy street, always something to hold your dog's interest, with lots of small critters living in this urban neighborhood due to the well-developed landscaping.
Due to the mature landscaping, Pine Orchard Heights provides lots of greenery for shady, pleasant walks. Several churches, schools, and the large cemetery to the west provide lots of green foliage and accompanying critters. There is a large park nearby, Joe Moody Harris Park, located several blocks to the east, which features picnic areas, a boardwalk, a lake, lots of trees and open areas. There is even a disc golf course, sort of like golf with frisbees! If your dog likes to play frisbee, 'better bring your own so he doesn't steal from those playing the course! If you're looking for an off-leash park, Al Helms Dog Park is a short drive away and allows off-leash exercise. This well-maintained, volunteer-run dog park features separate areas for large and small dogs and facilities for dog owners to dispose of waste.
