Woodland Center is home to the Port Orange Walmart Supercenter and a small selection of individual businesses. While there are no houses within the store parking lot, there are plenty in the surrounding residential communities. If you are close enough to the Walmart to walk to it, then you and your dog should have no problem making use of the neighborhood around you to get in your daily strolls.

While the store typically has just about everything you and your family are likely to need including supplies for your pooch, there are plenty of strip malls and numerous other big box stores all up and down Dunlawton Avenue. As the main road through town, Dunlawton is also home to most of the restaurants here in Port Orange, including both chain and local eateries.

From your home around Woodland Center, there are several small parks in each of the surrounding communities and several large spaces within driving distance for you and your pooch to explore.

No matter where you live around the Woodland Center area, traffic is going to be bustling during the day, especially during the usual rush hours. Luckily, most of the residential streets tend to quiet down between these hours. You can use these lulls in the action to take your pup out for a walk or, better yet, try getting out early in the morning before the rest of your neighbors head out.

Kids are always going to be an issue no matter where you live. There are the crowds waiting for the school bus, the crowds coming off the school bus at the end of the day, and all through the day, you may run into them. While having kids come up to pet your dog while you are walking can be cute, if you let them get carried away, your walk might never get very far. A short leash and gentle explanation might help them to understand your pup needs to keep moving.

There just isn't much in the way of usable green space here, but having said this, if you don't mind going for a short car ride, you are close to the Seemore Memorial Dog Park. It's the only off-leash dog park in town, but it does cover an acre that is split for big and small dogs. It also offers water for the dogs and shade for you to sit in.

The 1,637 acres of the Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Nature Preserve to the south makes a great place to take your dog out for daily walks. Here, you and your pooch can enjoy hiking the miles of trails, including those running all the way to New Smyrna Beach. Inside the preserve are acres of wetlands and dense forest growth for the two of you to hike and you never know what types of birds or other critters you might see here each time you venture out.
