Walking in Benteen Park during hot summers, dog owners will experience some extremely hot and humid conditions that they will want to avoid. Walking at different times of the day when the temperature is cooler will help make your walks more pleasant. Be sure to bring water along on walks and stay hydrated. Avoid overexerting yourself at these times. Winters are mild with temperatures above freezing and icy conditions are not a factor for locals and their pets. During spring and summer months, severe storms can occur with high winds that can be dangerous for people and pets. Check forecasts and be sky aware to avoid severe weather.
Most residential buildings are single-family homes of varying architectural styles which adds character and interest to the district. Homes in the area are well maintained with beautifully landscaped yards, lawns, shrubs, gardens, and trees that provide plenty of greenery. Some areas have separate sidewalks along roadways for pedestrians and some do not. Where separate pedestrian paths do not run along streets, you will need to be vigilant for traffic with which you share the road and keep your dog securely leashed.
There is a also a power corridor running along the north side of the neighborhood with a greenway associated with it.
The Benteen Park neighborhood harbors a park of the same name which has a playground, lots of trees, and open spaces you can easily visit with your canine companion. In the adjacent neighborhoods to the north are more parks to walk with your pooch.
Chosewood Park is a six-acre recreational area with tennis courts, basketball courts, a baseball field, a playground, views of the Atlanta Skyline, and a wildlife habitat. Also to the north is Boulevard Crossing Park which is part of the Atlanta Beltline, a string of parks and greenways following an old rail line that provides an excellent greenway and trails in the Atlanta region. The park provides 5 acres of natural and recreational areas with sports fields and green space a short distance from Benteen Park.
Thomasville Park is located to the south and is also within proximity to the neighborhood. It contains natural and recreational areas to explore with your pup.
