Developed in the 1920’s and originally part of the historic settlement of Underwood Hills, Berkeley Park is a well-known neighborhood of Atlanta. The community’s mixture of residential housing and shopping malls fashions a convenient area to live. Midtown Atlanta is just a few minutes drive away and, due to this, Berkeley Park has now developed into a tasteful commuter district. Peachtree Street, a boulevard filled with classy restaurants, bars, and comedy clubs, is one of the main pulls. No wonder the neighborhood attracts young professionals!
The community's love for four-legged friends is reflected in the facilities that are available here. It is easy to find niche pet stores that sell classy dog collars and leashes as well as stylish puppy treats. If you want to know exactly what you’re getting, Berkley Park has its own PetSmart! If you are looking for puppy advice from their helpful staff, this is the place to go.
Residential zones mixed with shopping districts shape Berkeley Park and its dog owners' walking routes. To the north of the neighborhood, it is rather urbanized with large shopping complexes registered as the majority of land use. Just below is the residential zone. Here, the small maze of streets provides some lovely walking routes. Atlanta waterworks reservoir is to the south of this. It is a large body of freshwater that is fenced off from the local community.
Berkeley Park, much like its neighbor, Underwood Hills, holds plenty of hills and valleys to create an assorted walking experience. The chocolate-box houses are tightly packed in with each other, giving the community a charming and enchanting atmosphere. A great plus is that public holidays are the number one time to visit! At Christmas, you can't miss the seasonal wreaths placed on each front door and, during the Fourth of July, American-style bunting is sprinkled all around for you to see.
Within walking distance is Underwood Hills Park. Although situated in the neighboring community, it is the favorite green space for Berkeley too. Not only because of the ideal location, but because it is also family-friendly! Home to children’s play areas, picnic benches, footpaths, and fields, it’s a great setting to spend your family filled afternoons.
A practical five-minute drive away is Tanyard Creek Urban Forest. This green zone is best for walking your pooch off the leash as the woodland paths guide both of you through the wilderness. At the northern end of this park is Tanyard Park and Gardens, an open space with pretty flowers lining the edges. This is a great space if your pup wants to stretch their legs!
For weekend walks, why not try Westside Reservoir Park? This gigantic former granite quarry hosts hours’ worth of footpaths, perfect for when you want to spend an afternoon bonding with your pooch.
