Channing Valley is a small residential neighborhood located in the northern suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia. While the state capital of Atlanta and its surrounding suburbs are home to almost six million people, Channing Valley only has around 2,000 residents. Atlanta is home to many company headquarters including Coca-Cola, CNN, and Delta Airlines.

Channing Valley is largely residential and is composed of many standalone, single-family homes, however, there are a few small apartment complexes. Beyond residential areas, Channing Valley is also home to a primary care clinic, a church, a handful of restaurants, and the Hiram Embry Plantation Landmark.

Thankfully, Atlanta weather isn't anything too extreme. Summers can get quite warm and, per Southern standards, are rather humid. However, spring, fall, and winter are all a bit more mild with significantly less humidity and more mild temperatures. The winters rarely bring snowfall and typically only garner a few inches of rain which can only sometimes turn to icy conditions.

As a smaller residential community, Channing Valley should be rather walkable for pedestrians and pups! There are some rolling hills throughout the neighborhood, but nothing that is significantly strenuous or steep. Just be sure to research your walking route if you or your pup has mobility issues.

Furthermore, given its nearness to downtown Atlanta, you could assume that Channing Valley would be a busier neighborhood. However, because of its more residential purpose, Channing Valley should not have heavy traffic with the exception of some neighborhood boundaries including Collier Road NW to the north, Northside Drive NW to the east, Horace E. Tate Freeway to the south, and Howell Mill Road to the west.

This neighborhood does have a more artificial, urban terrain, however. And, while that doesn't make for a very scenic walk, there are plenty of sidewalks throughout the neighborhood. At least you and Fido won't be sharing the roadways with oncoming traffic!

For such a small neighborhood, it's lucky that Channing Valley has one greenway within the neighborhood's boundaries. Thankfully, there are many greenways in the surrounding areas.

Channing Valley Park is the one greenway located in the Channing Valley neighborhood. This small, public park is open from 6AM to 11PM daily and is home to a small playground for local children, a small creek, and a large field for general recreation. While Fido will need to remain leashed at all times, this is great place for a pit stop. Just be sure to clean up after your furry friend and keep this local park clean!

Other nearby greenways include Spring Valley Park, Ellsworth Park, Tanyard Creek Park and Tanyard Creek Urban Forest, Spring Lake Park, Underwood Hills Park, and Atlanta Memorial Park.

Sterling Collier Hills Apartments, one of the local apartment complexes in the neighborhood, also has a dog park, but it is only open to residents of the building.
