Just below the Peachtree River lies a small and humble community called Hanover West. This little plot of land is located on the outskirts of northwest Atlanta and is approximately a 20-minute drive away from the hustling and bustling downtown area. The neighborhood is nestled in the boundaries of Buckhead, a historic, once completely autonomous settlement that has now been swallowed by its giant neighbor, Atlanta. Buckhead’s once thriving town center is now a classy urbanised zone that the neighborhood of Hanover West can enjoy.
The pedestrianized zones of Buckhead Village make it perfect for walking your pup and the puppy-friendly cafes make the ideal relaxing locations. In summer, relish in the hot sub-tropical weather and, through the short winters, enjoy the mild and pleasant climate. A helpful tip is to remember to bring lots of water for your puppy or stop off at coffee shops to keep both of you hydrated.
The neighborhood of Hanover is rather suburban and is filled with residential housing. The community is not densely populated and the lovely Victorian mansions sit widely apart from each other, giving the area a grandiose feel. Long brick driveways separate the houses from the streets and towering trees rise above the homes. This balances the artificial and natural sense of Hanover West and provides the commuter neighborhood with some respite from the urban jungle.
The gradients of the roads vary from very long flat streets to hilly roads that connect the neighboring streets. This is great if you want to avoid steep hills as there are many routes without an incline. Or, if you don’t mind the sloped sidewalks, you can take the steeper route. Either way, the neighborhood is still fairly flat and there will be no mountainous hikes here. If this was what you were after, the local greenways surrounding Hanover West are the ideal spot.
The closest greenway to Hanover West is the Cross Creek Golf Club. This dainty green zone takes you on a lovely riverside walk of Peachtree Creek. The pristine nature of the golf course creates amazing views and the wild geese and ducks that lounge here are a beautiful spectacle of wildlife.
If you fancy travelling a little further, Beaverbrook Park is the ideal location. This is a small park located to the west and is ideal for daily walks because of its tiny size. Nonetheless, the park is great for walking as it provides a footpath that loops all the way around as well as picnic benches and large green fields. Spend time playing fetch or take a brisk walk around!
If you want more of a substantial walk, Atlanta Memorial Park is a whopping 200 acres, full of wildlife and scenery to enjoy. This park is ideal for long weekend walks or family trips out with your four-legged friend.
