Margate Park refers to the large beautiful park along Lake Michigan and the nearby residential community. The Margate Park neighborhood is located north of Chicago's central communities. Although the area is primarily comprised of the park and nearby apartments, there are some commercial establishments as well. Nightclubs, restaurants, and shops sit along the main thoroughfare on the western border of the neighborhood that locals can access on foot. The park itself offers services such as a fieldhouse, gym, and fitness facilities for area residents.

Walking with your pup during Chicago's offseason requires some preparation with weather appropriate gear. Snow built up on paved streets in freezing temperatures can be hard on doggy paws, so booties may also be in order. Be ready for wet weather with rain gear in spring. The good news is that the proximity to the lake moderates temperatures somewhat, allowing them to be cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.

Margate Park is bordered on its east side by the large beautiful park of the same name which, in turn, borders Lake Michigan. The terrain is level and easy to navigate and tree-lined residential streets are peaceful and shady. Most residential structures are multi-family apartment buildings and many apartments exist adjacent to the park. There are historic areas with architecture that reflect the art deco period of 1920 with gilded and ornate facades. Many historic hotels have been converted to high-end condominiums and feature unique architecture.

This well-established neighborhood boasts majestic trees and mature landscaping bordering on Margate Park. There is plenty of green canopy and shade from tall, beautifully appointed historic buildings that make a stroll down a residential street in Margate Park a real treat for pedestrians and pups. Watch for traffic accessing main thoroughfares along the neighborhood's west side and keep your dog leashed except for in designated off-leash areas in the park.

Park trails connect to the Chicago Lakefront Trail which extends to the south. There is an off-leash, dog-friendly area around the Margate Park fieldhouse. Also located in the park, Puptown Park is a fenced area that allows off-leash activity. Dogs must have a DFA tag, available at local veterinarians. Other attractions in this scenic park include a fitness center, playground, and sports facilities.

Just south of Margate Park is the Montrose Dog-Friendly Beach which provides a unique opportunity to allow your dog off-leash access to the water. The Buttercup Playlot Park is also available in this neighborhood and features playground equipment and a splash park for area children. Dogs should be kept on a leash and on paved pathways.
