Park Manor is a southside Chicago neighborhood known for its blocks of row homes and accessibility for commuters. Its wide sidewalks and green areas make it a very walkable neighborhood, especially for curious pups. Park Manor has its historical charm as well and is where you'll find landmarks such as the house of Gwendolyn Brooks, a renowned American poet.

The region is mostly residential, but you will find some restaurants and businesses along East 71st and 75th Streets. There's also a grooming salon in the northeastern area of Park Manor and the Woodlawn Animal Hospital is just north of the neighborhood. While walking in Chicago, make sure to check the weather. Summers in the city can bring humidity and high temperatures that will heat up sidewalks, which isn't safe for puppy paws. In the winter, watch for lake-effect snow storms and freezing temperatures that may keep you indoors from time to time.

Park Manor only spans about 1.5 miles north to south and one mile east to west, but there are many blocks of homes within that area. Many of the streets are lined with trees that provide shade during a hot summer day. The area provides a perfect place for a leisurely walk and is ideal for dogs - or people - who tire easily or don't enjoy climbing hills.

Many of the roads in Park Manor are very quiet, so you won't have to worry about traffic in most areas. However, there are some roads where you should exercise extra caution. Interstate 94 sits in the western part of Park Manor and there are several exit and entrance ramps. Keep your pet on a tight leash to stay away from fast-moving cars. East 71st and 75th streets are also two of the busier roads in Park Manor, so make sure to always stay aware of your surroundings here.

Though there aren't many parks in Park Manor, there are many grassy areas and trees lining the sidewalks where you can take a break if you need. In the center of the neighborhood, Meyering Park offers some walking paths and several playgrounds to enjoy. The paths are away from the roads and surrounded by trees, grass, and other foliage that create a great escape from traffic. Just south of the neighborhood, Grand Crossing Park and the adjacent Adams Park feature sprawling parkland to explore.

You can head north to Washington Park, a 366-acre space with plenty of recreational things to do. If you want more green space, consider taking a walk to the lakeshore where Rainbow Beach Park and Jackson Park have walking trails and scenic views of the lake. You'll find beach access, a Japanese Garden, and even a dog park where you can set Fido free to run and play.
