Bates-Hendricks is a large neighborhood located in southern Indianapolis, Indiana. Originally built up by German immigrants, Bates-Hendricks is only a mile and a half south of the downtown area. This neighborhood is largely residential in nature and is home to plenty of standalone, single-family homes, however, there are a few apartment complexes sprinkled throughout the region. The Bates-Hendricks House is in the area and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Besides residences, there are quite a few churches, grocery stores, fitness studios, a school, nail salons, gas stations, and a few restaurants as well to be found in the neighborhood.

Indianapolis is home to both NFL and NBA teams as well as several major motorsports events, like the Indianapolis 500. Called Indy for short, this city is also home to universities and colleges, a 25-mile urban trail, well-known parks, museums, and a popular riverfront park in the downtown area.

This neighborhood is rather large, so you and your pup will have plenty to explore in Bates-Hendricks. While there may not be additional amenities catered to pups, Bates-Hendricks should be relatively pedestrian and pup-friendly.

There are plenty of sidewalks through the neighborhood, so you and your pup won't have to share the roads with any oncoming traffic or cyclists. Many of these sidewalks are lined with grass, so you won't have to look far in case your pup needs a quick pit stop. Just be sure to clean-up after them, especially if you're in front of someone's house. In addition, Bates-Hendricks is a relatively flat neighborhood, so you won't encounter any strenuous hills!

The boundaries of Bates-Hendricks include I-70 to the north, I-65 to the east, East Beecher Street and railroad tracks to the south, and Madison Avenue to the west. South East Street is also another major roadway through the Bates-Hendricks neighborhood, so it might have more traffic than other parts of the region.

Since Bates-Hendricks is such a large neighborhood, it's great to hear that there are nine greenways located within its borders! The two larger parks, Send Triangle Greenspace and Hendricks Park, actually connect to form one larger public park. These greenways have small picnic shelters with tables, paved walkways, and some wooded areas.

The other greenways in this neighborhood are smaller parks with a few benches and some have  a playground. These include Coburn Park, Czerny Garden, Orange Park, Sexson Park, Baumann Park, Ringgold Park, and an unnamed green space, located centrally in the neighborhood. The local Pleasant Run Trail also runs through this larger Indianapolis neighborhood and this seven-mile trail follows the Pleasant Run, a local waterway, and is a great place for bikers, runners, pedestrians, and pups to explore!

Unfortunately, there is not a dog park close to the Bates-Hendricks neighborhood. You will have to travel by car to find the nearest one.
