Old Northside is a historic neighborhood located in the northern part of Indianapolis, Indiana. Only a mile and a half to the north of the downtown area, Old Northside is a quaint neighborhood with several historic landmarks, beautiful hallways, and several greenways.

Historically, the Old Northside neighborhood was home to luxurious mansions for Indianapolis' most affluent citizens. On the National Register of Historic Places, this neighborhood still has many of the historic buildings and landmarks like the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site, the Harrison Center, and The Indianapolis Propylaeum.

Today, Old Northside is home to large, standalone, single-family homes. Some of these have been converted into smaller apartments, but they still maintain their architectural aesthetic. There are also a few apartment and condo complexes in the area. Additionally, mixed into the the residential areas, there are plenty of local businesses, including hotels, local restaurants and bars, grocery stores, churches, schools, and a local brewery.

You and your pup should have a lovely time while exploring the Old Northside neighborhood. Take your time to enjoy the variety of beautiful homes in this area while walking along the well-maintained sidewalks. During the summer months, many of these sidewalks are even lined with large trees to provide shade and grassy patches, just in case your pup's paw pads start hurting on the hot concrete.

Thankfully, Old Northside is a rather flat neighborhood, so walks here shouldn't pose any problems for those with mobility issues!

The boundaries of Old Northside include East 16th Street to the north, the Monon Trail to the east, I-65 to the south, and North Pennsylvania Street to the west. North Delaware Street, Central Avenue, and North College Avenue are also major roadways through Old Northside, so they may be more heavily trafficked than other parts of the neighborhood and you will want to be extra cautious while exploring these areas.

If you and your pup are looking to get away from the city vibes, there are four greenways located in the Old Northside neighborhood! The largest public park in this area is the Frank & Judy O'Bannon Soccer Park, a 17-acre space located in the northeast corner of the neighborhood. Beyond soccer fields, there are other areas for general recreation and a section of the Monon Trail that acts as this park's eastern border. The Monon Trail is a walking, running, and biking trail that runs for over 25 miles throughout the city of Indianapolis.

The next public park, Shawn Grove Park, is a smaller greenway with a children's playground and areas to rest for pedestrians and visitors.

Great Oak Common, located centrally in the neighborhood, is a Victorian-style park with gas-lit lights and a small Victorian fountain. While this park isn't super pup-friendly, it may be a great place to stop, rest, and people-watch for a few minutes.
