Macalester-Groveland is a large neighborhood in western St. Paul, Minnesota bordered on the west by the Mississippi River. This vibrant community encompasses Macalester College and a part of St. Thomas University and boasts a variety of small businesses, quiet cafes, and unique restaurants. While there aren't any pet stores in the neighborhood boundaries, there is an animal clinic and chiropractor near the center of Macalester-Groveland, just in case your pet needs a quick massage. The neighborhood is teeming with history as well. St. Paul's first electric streetcar was constructed in Macalester-Groveland, connecting the community to the city's downtown area. 

The neighborhood is a mix of single-family and duplex homes and apartment complexes, making it a very diverse area to explore. Your furry friend will love a walk around Macalester-Groveland but be sure to check the weather before heading out. St. Paul's weather can be unpredictable at times, especially in the winter.

Macalester-Groveland spans about 2.5 miles east to west and a mile north to south, making it expansive but easy to walk through. The neighborhood consists of mostly flat streets lined with shady trees, so no need to worry about your pup growing overtired. There are several roads in the more residential areas of Macalester-Groveland that don't have sidewalks, so stay aware of passing cars if you choose to walk in those parts. Try to avoid Ayd Mill Road, the community's eastern border. It's a busy road with no sidewalks and is not the most ideal spot to walk your pet. 

This is a big neighborhood with diverse areas so you can choose to walk through sprawling parks and quiet streets or you can explore the pretty retail areas with wide sidewalks and pretty storefronts. You'll find several pet-friendly spots along Randolph Avenue where you can stop for a quick bite or drink before heading on your way.

Macalester College, in particular, has a lot of green space and pathways set away from busy roads. 

If you need a quick rest, Mattocks Park in the southeast corner of Macalester-Groveland features a playground and some picnic tables. Groveland Park features several athletic fields and facilities as well as some paths under shady trees. With the number of greenways around the area, you're sure to run into a nice patch of grass to enjoy with your pup at your side.
