Snow sometimes occurs during winter months, although some winters see very little snowfall, a major snowstorm is always a possibility. The terrain is Wellwood is mostly residential with some commercial areas, parks, and sports fields. While there are not any steep hills, there are some slight rises on area streets and homes in the region tend to be set above street level on an elevated landscape. The residential areas are incredibly green and lush with large, closely-spaced trees creating a shady canopy over residential roads. Sidewalks and grassy berms are the norm which creates cool footing for your dog when walking. 

A major route lies along the north border with plenty of traffic. Crescent Boulevard is a multi-lane roadway and you should keep your dog leashed and close to you along this busy street. Most structures in the neighborhood are single-family character homes of varying architectural styles, often two-story structures, and sometimes with covered porches and other interesting architectural features. There are some walk-up apartments along some of the main roadways where businesses are also present.

A paved greenway runs along Chestnut Avenue. Running east-west in the Wellwood region, the Merchantville Bike Path has grassy areas on both sides where you can move with your dog when oncoming cyclists approach. You can also teach your dog to trot beside your bike and cover some ground along this beautiful greenway that also runs by several local businesses. It is a great way to get around Wellwood!


For some off-leash fun, the Bow Wow Dog Park is located just northeast in Jordantown and has off-leash areas for large and small dogs to play safely. Several small community parks and athletic fields are located in Wellwood. While your dog needs to stay off of playgrounds and sports fields, the surrounding green spaces can be enjoyed from adjacent paved sidewalks or paths running through the parks. 


Johnson Park, Stockton Park, and Wellwood Park are just a few of the area parks providing trees and lawns for residents to enjoy.
