Battery Park is an absolutely gorgeous historic park located just south of Battery Park City. This elegant park offers views of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, and ferries depart from this park to visit both islands.

This park offers many natural landscapes that will entice your dog and offer relief from the constant asphalt of New York City. Well-maintained shrubbery pushes in on the path from all sides and the natural gravel surface of the paths winding throughout the park offer a pleasing alternative to asphalt, especially on hot days when asphalt is rough on dog's delicate pads.

There are many sitting areas scattered throughout the park where you can take a rest with your dog and offer her some water, and the wide variety of paths intersecting allow you to choose whether to interact with people with your dog or not. This could be extremely important if you are working on socializing your dog or getting her used to crowds.

The wide walkways of Battery Park, mostly covered with gravel instead of asphalt paving, offer a welcome alternative to the typical surfaces your dog's feet experience in New York City. Where there is not gravel, there are attractive pavers with the lovely ground cover pushing right up over the bricks.

Plenty of tall, mature trees offer shade and something for your dog to sniff. While your dog should not be encouraged to wander through the shrubbery, just putting her nose into the ground cover and edges of the shrubbery will provide her with a more natural experience that she can usually get.

Dogs love sniffing the river breezes, and your dog will enjoy walking along the wide walkway bordering the river and smelling all of the river scents. The walkway also provides you with plenty of room to move your dog away from people, if that is what you want, or allow her to interact if that is appropriate.

Battery Park is a well-maintained garden full of mature trees, well-pruned shrubs, and lovely perennial and annual flowers planted to maintain a show of flowers through most of the growing season. Plenty of grassy areas allow you the freedom to run and play with your dog, while still getting to enjoy the river breezes.

If you and your dog should get bored of Battery Park, you can easily walk up the river trail until it connects with Battery Park City Esplanade, which leads to a chain of parks that go all the way along the length of Battery Park City.

These Parks provide a good range of paved paths bordered by lovely mature treesĀ and wide grassy spaces where you and your dog can relax. The separated design of the parks means that you can find your own private patch of paradise even here in the crowded Manhattan strip of New York.
