Hunters Point is a lovely little neighborhood in Queens. It borders the East River and the mouth of Newtown Creek. Much of this neighborhood is comprised of businesses in compact two or three-story buildings that are pushed close together. There are also residential areas with charming brick buildings that are also tightly packed and have tiny fenced yards. Sidewalks are wide and interspersed with attractive although not large trees, but there is not much of a divider between the sidewalk and the busy road, so you will probably want to keep your dog close to you while you are walking through most of Hunters Point.

If you head towards the water you can find some charming cobblestone streets and wide open areas to walk with your dog along the water. Cobblestone slows down cars and the lovely breezes that come off of the water will provide a very pleasant walk along the waterway of Hunters Point.

Most of Hunters Point is made up of dense buildings that are close to the road so that you will have to keep your dog pretty close to you on the wide sidewalks. While there are lots of trees along the neighborhood streets, most of them are not especially tall or mature, and the lack of grassy area or large lawns makes walking along the neighborhood streets of Hunters Point somewhat lacking if you and your pooch are craving some green.

For more pleasant walking, head towards the water and the cobblestone streets that border it. Lots of open area and parks between the cobblestone and the water allow you space to let your dog walk on a loose leash or even rollerblade, skateboard, or bicycle. A bike path borders the water much of the way down, even once the road is no longer cobblestone. The divider with shrubbery will make you feel confident of your separation from cars, and the bordering sidewalk will keep you separate from pedestrians.

A generous strip of land along the water is given over to attractive plantings, walkways and bikeways for people to enjoy. While trees in this little parkway are not yet tall, the combination of attractive shrubbery, annual flowers, and attractive little trees makes for a very pleasant walk along the water.

You have a great chance of seeing all kinds of water birds like seagulls or osprey while walking along the water. The contrast of the pleasant green space to the cityscape across the water is striking.

In Hunters Point South Park, there is even a dog playground and park which your dog will beg you to take her to. A dog pool and plenty of play area make this a wonderful place to bring your dog along the beautiful waterway. Even on hot New York days, your dog can enjoy playing with other dogs and stay cool in the pool with the gentle breezes off the water.
