Jamaica Hills is a pleasant little neighborhood in Queens. Homes tend to be historic, usually two stories, with charming Victorian designs. Many front yards are either fenced or raised up so that you may feel a little cramped on the relatively narrow sidewalk, with only a narrow divider between the sidewalk and the road.

That said, plenty of mature trees and the wide expanses of well-maintained grass and shrubbery make walking through this neighborhood very pleasant.

For a break from the neighborhood walking, you can head towards the center of the neighborhood to Captain Tilly Park. This sweet little park can make you feel like you are far from the center of Queens.

Lots of trees, as well as a charming little pond in the center of the park, give you a welcome escape from the city. Walking along the streets around the park can be very nice as well, since the high school right across the street offers plenty of green space that is a pleasant thing to have on the other side of the road while you walk along the edge of the park.

Most of Jamaica Hills is quite flat, with relatively narrow sidewalks and thin dividers between the sidewalks and the road. Since many houses in Jamaica Hills have fenced front yards or front yards that are raised up from the street, walking along the streets can make you feel a little bit cramped.

While there are some straight stretches of sidewalk along homes without fenced or raised front yards that can be good for wheeled devices, for the most part, it is best not to try running with your dog on your skateboard or rollerblades in this relatively restricted space. That said, you may get away with riding a bike here with your dog with no problem.

To give your dog a chance to walk on a loose leash without worrying about bothering other pedestrians or worrying about traffic, you can head towards the center of town to the Captain Tilly Park. This park offers pleasant walking paths through a forested area. Although many of these paths are bordered with little decorative fences, there are still plenty of places for your dog to sniff around in the natural areas.

Jamaica Hills offers a lovely park right in the center of town. Captain Tilly Park is designed to give you a feeling of being immersed in a natural wooded environment in a relatively small park. Paths surround the charming little lake in the center of the park, and also ramble through the rest of the wooded area of this park.

Plenty of grassy clearings give you a chance to take a break from walking with your dog and sit and have a picnic or throw a ball. Seating areas and a playground are nestled among the trees so you have a lovely experience of stumbling on some new aspect of this park at every turn.

While this park is relatively well-maintained and not wild enough to host a wide variety wildlife, in this highly populated area of Queens, wildlife will take advantage of any opportunity for a little bit of wilderness and tree cover. Therefore you have a great chance of seeing animals like raccoons, squirrels, and all kinds of bird life in this little park.
