Located in Manhattan, New York City, the name Nolita is derived from its location just north of Little Italy. While in the past, the area had a strong Italian influence, over the years this seems to have been lost as higher rents mean wealthier residents have moved into this central neighborhood. The boundaries of Nolita are generally described as being Houston Street on its northern border while Lafayette Street runs along its western side. To the south, you have Broome Street and the eastern border is defined as The Bowery.

In terms of pet amenities, you have a few options close to the area. Lower East Side Animal Hospital is on Eldridge Street on the opposite side of Sara D. Roosevelt Park. Just west of Nolita on Broome Street, you have Zee Dog NYC - the ideal pet care store for all your pooch’s needs. Animal Haven Animal Shelter can be found on Center Street if you're looking for a new friend.

If you’re looking for a casual stroll that can be completed in even the least comfortable attire, Nolita is ideal. Its city center location means that the terrain is incredibly even, covered by mostly sidewalks and tarmac. You can even take a walk straight after work in your suit jacket and dress shoes as there are no special walking clothes required.

Unfortunately, this artificial terrain, while perfect for you, is not always what your doggie pal is after. So if you’re looking for natural grounds with grass and rolling hills, you’ll have to go a little further afield. Manhattan, especially the south, is also relatively flat, so once again, this makes for perfect walking conditions. You may not even break a sweat on your casual Sunday afternoon wander. To reach terrain that is a little more challenging, head north to Central Park where you’ll find mixed ground including hills and grassy knolls.

Just like many city center locations, Nolita is definitely not the most leafy-green area. The area is defined by large blocks of buildings, so finding sufficient space for your pooch to run and play is not always easy. Having said that, there are a few parks within its boundaries.

Elizabeth Street Garden is located in the center of Nolita. This beautiful community garden is comprised of a number of cultured flower beds that bloom, giving a beautiful scent and the feeling of serenity. While it’s not the rolling hills your pooch might have hoped for, it’s still the ideal space to grab a little slice of nature. It’s unlikely that your doggie pal will be allowed off the leash here, however, so try something larger for a special treat.

To the east of the area, you have Sara D Roosevelt Park, located in the Bowery. This larger recreational park may be more appropriate for giving your pup space to run free.
