Necko is a tiny residential community of mostly multi-family homes south of the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center and Ohio State University. Many of those who live here are students or work at the hospital.

This is an older historic district of brick homes and apartment buildings. As you might expect in an area like this, there are plenty of restaurants to choose from including both vegetarian and vegan fare. There are also several parks to enjoy spending long summer days playing in and one indoor doggy daycare for those long winter days when your pooch needs some time with their buddies. When they need their supply of dog food and treats refilled, there are a few pet supply stores nearby where you are sure to find exactly what they like.

Necko tends to be a pretty busy neighborhood with the university just up the road, so be sure you are on your guard as you take your daily walks.

Let's start by saying the terrain here is as flat as one of the operating tables in the Wexner Medical Center. This largely residential community offers you and your pooch sidewalks you can use to create a number of different walking routes to keep a little variety in your daily routine. If you need more room to roam, there are plenty more residential blocks to the south in Dennison Place.

Necko has some fairly large streets, all of which may require walkers to keep an eye out for traffic when crossing them. There are also several parking lots with cars entering and exiting during regular business hours, so there is a distinct need to keep an eye out for those cars as you wander.

This area has very little variation in the height of the terrain, so consider venturing up towards the parks to the north of the neighborhood to get in a different type of exercise.

While Necko has no available green space within its boundaries, you are a ten to fifteen-minute drive to parks where you and your pooch are welcome. Many students take their dogs for walks in the Oval, the park in the middle of the OSU campus. Here, you will find large shady areas of grass with students studying, napping, playing, or just hanging out. There are walkways for you to use, as long as your dog remains on their leash!

To the south lies Wheeler Memorial Park, a large green space with several walking trails and a number of shade trees. More importantly, the park is home to the Wheeler Dog Park. The dog park is split into separate fenced-in areas for large and small dogs. Each section has plenty of shade and water fountains for the dogs to drink from and the fenced-in areas are large enough for your pooch to get in plenty of off-leash exercise.
