The main commercial corridor, Fremont Street runs east-west through the south-central section of the neighborhood and there is more traffic on this main road, so care should be taken when crossing it. This road divides the neighborhood into two main sections with the Beaumont section to the south and Wilshire to the north.

The area's residential roads are lined with older vintage homes with interesting architecture and well landscaped properties. There are sidewalks, trees, and grassy berms throughout the region providing shade and shelter and a green backdrop as well as soft grassy footing.

Many of the streets in this older developed neighborhood are narrow and quiet and there are some elevation changes and some level sections so you can adjust your walking route to you and your pup's ability. Terrain tends to slope down as you head south and the neighborhood is located on Alameda Ridge with views of the downtown Portland and surrounding areas.

The lovely Wilshire Park is located in the area's northwest border and provides over 14 acres of beautiful green space. Picnic sites and walking paths are available in the park and there are sports fields, a playground, and a volleyball court located here. A 1-acre off-leash dog park is located here, so your furry friend can play loose. You will, however, need to bring your own water for your thirsty pup and supplies to clean up after your pet.

Fernhill Park is located to the north and has many amenities like drinking fountains, restrooms, a splash pad, and playgrounds for users with children. There are open and treed areas with nature trails and a greenway trail running to the south through an open area.

A short trip on foot to the south takes dog walkers to Grant Park where a unique children's sculpture garden and fountain are located with walking paths and beautiful trees and lawns to enjoy.
