Vernon is a beautiful older neighborhood with a typical developed urban grid street pattern. The neighborhood is bordered on the north side by Ainsworth Street, 10th Avenue on the west, 22nd Avenue on the east, and Wygant Street on the south.

The homes in the area vary, but many are older character homes with vintage appeal that lend charm to the neighborhood. Residential properties are well landscaped with lawns, trees, and gardens with shady trees lining residential roads. Streets in the area have separate sidewalks for pedestrians and their canine companions to stroll on, keeping you and your pet safe and separate from traffic.

There are only some very gentle inclines in the terrain, most of which is relatively level and not hard to walk around. A large park on the northeast side provides a pretty green space for residents. Commercial thoroughfares in the neighborhood are lined with businesses and have less landscaping.

On Vernon’s northeast side sits Alberta Park which provides over 16 acres of recreational and natural greenway in the neighborhood. The park features an off-leash area where your dog can play and meet other pups. The area is not securely fenced and dogs should have good recall and be well socialized with other pets and people. The park also has open areas, picnic tables, a playground, and ball fields for park-goers to enjoy. There is an accessible restroom in the park which is also a basic earthquake emergency communication node. Paved and unpaved paths run through the park and are ideal for walks with your pup.

The .6 mile Alberta Park Trail runs around the park and has some elevation changes, but they are so gradual, most hikers don’t even notice it! Another small park is situated on Vernon’s southwest side. Rose Lawn City Park is a small, but pretty park you can visit with your pooch.
