Logan Circle, also known as Logan Square, is a magical blend of high-rise apartments and condos mixed in with historic homes and museums such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Franklin Institute, and the Academy of Sciences. There are few single-family homes in the center of the neighborhood and those tend to be quite expensive. Here you'll find Logan Square Park with the Swann Fountain in the middle. It is said that the fountain was modeled after one at Le Place de la Concorde found in Paris.
The area offers fine dining, boutique shopping on Rittenhouse Row, and several parks nearby. The weather here is typical of the rest of Philly with bitterly cold winters filled with weeks of below freezing temperatures and plenty of snow and ice. Summers are something to look forward to as the temperatures hover in the mid-to-upper 80s and there is plenty of sunshine for the whole family to enjoy.
Logan Circle is essentially an urban area with more paved surfaces than grass, even as you move out from the center to the streets filled with row houses and duplexes. Most areas are not the most inviting place to take poor Fido out for their daily walks. There are small patches of grass along many of the blocks or on street corners. Most streets have sidewalks for you and Fido to walk on running down at least one side.
If you want to make your walks more interesting or challenging, your only choice is to be creative. There are many different blocks you can walk around, a few small parks to check out, and new parts of the neighborhood to explore. Be sure you give poor Fido's paws a chance to get used to walking on paved surfaces before you try to go for walks that are too long as the surface can easily damage sensitive doggy paws.
Living in Logan Circle doesn’t mean having to live without green spaces. There are several smaller parks in the community for you and Fido to look into. Mathias Park on N. 18th St. offers a walking trail, several sculptures to enjoy, and plenty of grass and trees.
outside of Logan Circle in the Spring Garden community is the Green Street Dog
Park, a membership-only dog park that is very well maintained. Instead of real grass, the park is covered in anti-microbial artificial
turf that has been specially designed for dogs. The park offers waste bags and disposal
cans, water for Fido, and ways to keep the
park clean. To help keep you feeling safe, the park offers 24-hour security
cameras with both real-time and recorded video surveillance. This park may not
be within the bounds of the Logan Circle community, but it is a wonderful place
for you and Fido to go play.
