Beyond being a popular destination for food and shopping, 12 South also has quite a few residential areas, particularly surrounding 12th Avenue South, the street. These spaces are largely composed of standalone, single-family homes, many of which are newly renovated or rentals for local college students. However, there are a few apartment-style residential halls for Belmont students located in the northwest part of the neighborhood.
Nashville, including 12 South, should often have perfect weather for walking your pup and exploring Music City, U.S.A. You will experience four distinct seasons and even the winter months shouldn't be too harsh with the exception of the large snowfall and icy conditions the city experiences every few years.
However, if you need more excitement or people watching, the commercial areas have plenty of local restaurants and boutiques that will have water bowls - and sometimes even treats! - out on the sidewalks for your pup to enjoy.
The boundaries of 12 South include Wedgewood Avenue to the north, 10th Avenue South and 9th Avenue South to the east, Kirkwood Avenue and Gale Lane to the south, and Belmont Boulevard and 15th Avenue South to the west. 12th Avenue South, running directly down the middle of the neighborhood, is home to many of the commercial spaces in the neighborhood and will likely be more trafficked, both by vehicles and pedestrians, than surrounding residential streets.
Thankfully, there are several other parks within walking distance of the 12 South neighborhood. Immediately south of this neighborhood, Gale Lane Community Park is a lovely public park with a few walking and running trails. The Four Forty Greenway trail, which runs through the area, also connects to a few other local parks.
Other local greenways include Battle of Nashville Monument Park, Battlemont Park, St. Bernard Park, Fannies Mae Dees Park, Reservoir Park, and Edgehill Community Memorial Garden. The nearest dog park is three miles to the northwest in the popular Cenntennial Park.
