Austin's climate is perfect for an outdoor excursion year-round. Summers reach temperatures in the high 90s while the winter is mid-to-low 60s. Always check the forecast when planning your walk, especially during the hot days of summer. Plan early morning or evening walks to avoid the sun and hot sidewalks that could damage sensitive puppy paws.
For more of a bustling city vibe, head over to The Drag, an area along Guadalupe Street that features most of West Campus' stores and restaurants. Don't fret about finding a grassy spot for a pit stop. Most of the neighborhood features plenty of grassy spots and tree-lined streets, particularly the western part! You'll also find several busy streets, but there are many sidewalks throughout West Campus to avoid walking close to cars.
Forming part of West Campus' western border is Pease District Park, a sprawling stretch of greenway that offers walking trails, picnic areas, and more. This is also where you can access the Shoal Creek Trail, a four-mile paved hiking path that follows Shoal Creek from Lady Bird Lake in the south to 38th Street, a few blocks north of West Campus. The trail is well-maintained and you'll find water fountains and restrooms along the way.
