Southeast of the wonderfully weird Austin, Texas is the neighborhood of Yarrabee Bend South. While the rustic surroundings of the neighborhood, including McKinney Falls State Park, give Yarrabee Bend South a far-and-away feel, its proximity to the city gives it the edge of being conveniently located. This family-friendly suburb is just a hop, skip, and a jump from booming shopping centers, grocery stores, post offices, as well as access to Interstate 35 which can get you nearly anywhere in the city.

Because this residential area is so close to a number of hiking trails and state parks, you'll find many of the locals enjoying the great outdoors on the weekends and during summer vacation. A majority of Yarrabee's residents are young families which are mainly due to the proximity of schools. This area is a complex of suburban communities, but to the east, it's sprawling Texas landscape and country roads reaching out to smaller nearby towns.

While a simple walk around the block is perfectly acceptable in Yarrabee Bend South, there's so much more to explore with all the nearby parks and trails. Most of the tucked-away community has sidewalks, but some streets will only have footpaths on one side of the road. You may find yourself crossing the road a lot to ensure you don't have to walk in the street.

A nearby elementary school means there are a number of four-way stops complete with pedestrian-friendly crosswalks. Most of the residents are young families so people are generally mindful of walkers.

Bordered by Onion Creek, Yarrabee has several cul-de-sacs, which means your walk could be interrupted by a dead end. The streets are, for the most part, on a grid system with a few sharp turns present. Be sure to walk toward traffic if you do find yourself without a sidewalk so that oncoming traffic can easily see you.

In Austin and its surrounding areas, there are several greenbelts. Onion Creek Greenbelt adds to that greenbelt reputation by having a designated off-leash trail for humans and their canine companions to enjoy. There are multiple access points for your pup to take a quick dip and escape the heat. What's more is that there are over 500 acres of protected woodland, trails, and watering holes to explore. This is due to the encompassing Onion Creek Metropolitan Park which absorbs the Onion Creek Greenbelt and its trails.

McKinney Falls State Park is just a short jaunt from the neighborhood which many of its residents take advantage of. This gorgeous protected land is rustic, yet well-maintained with some trails even having cement sidewalks for joggers and bikers to enjoy as well as dog-walkers.

There can be snakes on trails, so use caution when walking through tall brush and rocks where snakes like to sun bathe.
