Northwest Dallas is a predominantly residential and industrial neighborhood set away from the downtown area of the city. It's known as the location of the Dallas Love Field Airport as well as the Dallas field office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. As a mainly residential neighborhood, there isn't a lot of opportunity for shopping or dining. However, there is a PetSmart and Pet Supplies Plus in the northeastern corner of the community. If you have an emergency, there are several animal hospitals in Northwest Dallas including the Midway Road Animal Clinic and Preston Center Animal Clinic.

As with any place you go, make sure to check the weather before heading out. Dallas stays warm all year round, providing perfect weather for a walk with your pet. However, the summer temperatures can reach the 100s and severe thunderstorms often light up the sky. Plan morning walks to avoid the heat and check the forecast so you don't get caught in a storm.

Northwest Dallas is a large, sprawling neighborhood filled with curving roads surrounded by single-family homes. You'll find that most of where you walk in the community has quiet, tree-lined streets that offer shade during extra-sunny days. Most of the roads are very quiet with little traffic. Northwest Dallas is a perfect place for a walk if you want to escape from the busy downtown.

Try to avoid walking Fido in the western part of the region. This is where most of the industrial buildings are situated and there are very few sidewalks. The scenery isn't all that interesting and it's dangerous to walk on the roads. You'll have a more pleasant walk if you stick around the residential part of Northwest Dallas. There are areas in other parts of the neighborhood, however, that also don't have sidewalks. Most of these are on side streets near homes. If you walk there, keep your pet on a tight leash.

The neighborhood features many tree-lined sidewalks and grassy areas if you need a rest, but sometimes, you want to enjoy a large park. Northwest Dallas has a variety of parks ranging in size that your pup will love to explore. You'll find numerous small parks in the center of the neighborhood where kids can enjoy playgrounds or you and Fido can relax under a shady tree. Peter Pan Park is one of these parks and Joe's Creek runs through the greenway. If you like watching sports, head over to Royal Park where you can sit under a shelter and watch a game from afar.

Bachman Lake Park is a large, expansive green area just above the airport. Surrounding Bachman Lake, the park features a three-mile trail perfect for a scenic walk with your dog. You can also choose to drive over to Spring Trail Park in the east where you'll find miles of trails surrounded by natural foliage.
