The Woodlands of Plano is technically located in Plano, Texas. However, due to the high number of small towns in the area combined with the common shifting in territorial lines, this area is most commonly referred to as part of the Dallas-Fort Worth region. Although this can get a bit confusing, it is actually a great thing in disguise because it allows locals to have the comfort of small town living while still being close enough to two major cities to have the local business perks of a large city. That being said, however, there is still a significantly smaller amount of dog-based businesses than you would find closer to inner city Dallas or Fort Worth.

Although there are a few very highly rated groomers in the area, the real downfall of this area is the lack of pet safety facilities. Residents have a hard time feeling safe knowing their pets have nowhere to go in case of emergency.

This area has a very unique set of features that creates the perfect environment for a very specific audience. However, unfortunately, those who are not in this target audience can find themselves bored or unsatisfied with the environment. The main audience in this area are families. Those with small children are common. This is partially due to the fact that the very flat terrain usually discourages very active people or hikers. However, it is perfect for small children who cannot always handle hilly terrain without hurting themselves or overheating.

Another important factor is the very artificial suburban layout of the entire area. It discourages strong nature enthusiasts with a lack of natural views and long runs of houses close together. It also discourages most city slickers because it is pretty far out from the core of the city. However, it is perfect for people who value close-knit neighborhood communities.

Although this area is lacking in pet services, it is certainly not lacking on high quality and exciting parks. Not only are the neighborhood parks great in this area, but there are even a few parks that go off the beaten path and have a few more exciting surprises than passers by may realise.

A great example of this is Bob Woodruff Park North. Not only does this great spot have a playground, fishing pier, volleyball court, and well paved trails, but it also has a great dog park!

Another fun option is Schell Park. This very traditional neighborhood park features two playgrounds, baseball and soccer fields, a beautiful pavilion, and restrooms. The Spring Creek Nature Area is easily the best place to go for truly beautiful sights of nature. This is one of those very rare parks that really stand out amongst the rest. The simple walking trails are all you need to make this park complete.
